We’ve partnered with design blogger and interiors stylist, Lou Archell from the blog, Little Green Shed, to introduce the Modern Rustic trend. Lou says, “Modern Rustic is all about using honest materials that feature handmade elements or are taken straight from nature and, when paired with contemporary homewares, create a truly interesting interiors style”.

Find Lou’s top tips for creating a Modern Rustic look in your home below:

Tip 1: Use contrasting stacks – Avoid colour blocking by stacking coloured tones with neutral ones. Keep things interesting and informal by mixing textures too. On your shelf, place coloured glass against a woven basket or handcrafted ceramic

Tip 2: Add a statement centrepiece – Fill your home with items you love, hero the things that are designed to enhance the way you live as well as handcrafted pieces that are authentic and honest

Tip 3: Vary your heights – Play around with grouping and displaying products. To balance scale perhaps try a shallow nest of bowls next to some tall books (turn the spines in for more natural shades)

Tip 4: Upgrade your containers – Kitchen shelves should be both practical and beautiful, don’t fall into the habit of displaying the essentials or it will be messy in no time. Decant things like tea, olive oil and sugar into interesting glass jars and ceramic pots.
